{"id":413,"date":"2015-09-29T16:47:35","date_gmt":"2015-09-29T22:47:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/strawberry94941.org\/?page_id=413"},"modified":"2015-09-30T10:12:50","modified_gmt":"2015-09-30T16:12:50","slug":"strawberry-did-you-know","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/strawberry94941.org\/?page_id=413","title":{"rendered":"Strawberry &#8220;Did You Know&#8230;.?&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Even many of us who have lived in Strawberry a long time don&#8217;t know some basic things about Strawberry. \u00a0Here are some facts about the\u00a0community we call home:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Even though our mailing address is Mill Valley, <strong>we are not part of incorporated Mill Valley<\/strong>; we are under the jurisdiction of the county. \u00a0Mill Valley City Council, MV mayor, MV DPW or police, etc. &#8211; none of that applies to us. \u00a0We use county services.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <strong>Strawberry government services<\/strong> include the Tam Valley School District, the Southern Marin Fire District, the Richardson Bay Sanitary District, and the Marin County Sheriff&#8217;s department.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Marin County has a Countywide Plan that is updated periodically that governs things like traffic, land use, zoning, etc. \u00a0<strong>Strawberry is specifically governed by the Strawberry Community Plan<\/strong>, last updated in 1982, which is legally incorporated into\u00a0the Countywide Plan. \u00a0Smaller neighborhoods are then governed by &#8220;master plans&#8221; or &#8220;precise plans,&#8221; which often contain specific requirements or prohibitions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0Specific Strawberry government groups include the <strong>Strawberry Design Review Board<\/strong> (appointed by our county Supervisor, website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marincounty.org\/depts\/cd\/divisions\/planning\/boards-commissions-and-public-hearings\/drb\/strawberry-drb\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) which reviews building proposals, and the <strong>Strawberry Recreation District Board<\/strong> (elected by residents, website <a href=\"http:\/\/strawberry.marin.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) which manages the Strawberry Recreation District, including the Rec Center on E. Strawberry Dr.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; There are <strong>more than one\u00a0&#8220;Strawberry,&#8221;<\/strong> depending on what you look at; the area for the Rec District is different than that governed by the Design Review Board, which is different than the borders counted for Strawberry&#8217;s population as a &#8220;Census Designated Place.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Our <strong>elected officials<\/strong> include Kate Sears (Marin County District 3 Supervisor), Mike McGuire (our new state senator), Marc Levine (state assemblyman), and Jared Huffman (US Representative).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; We&#8217;re in <strong>District 3 of Marin County<\/strong>, which includes the towns of Sausalito, Mill Valley, Tiburon and Belvedere, and the unincorporated areas of Strawberry, Tam Valley and Marin City.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Strawberry&#8217;s population of about 5,400 people makes it <strong>almost as big as Sausalito<\/strong> (about 7,100), but smaller than Tiburon (about 9,200) and\u00a0Mill Valley (almost 14,000).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Marin county is older (on average) than the rest of the Bay Area, and <strong>Strawberry is older<\/strong> (on average) than the rest of Marin county.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; According to the MV School District, <strong>Strawberry Point Elementary School capacity is 360 students; current enrollment is over 400<\/strong>, according to a recent Mill Valley\u00a0traffic study.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; There are <strong>more students attending Strawberry Point from\u00a0outside Strawberry<\/strong> than local Strawberry children, according to that same traffic study.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Strawberry is <strong>over 60% rentals, less than 40%<\/strong> single-family homes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Even many of us who have lived in Strawberry a long time don&#8217;t know some basic things about Strawberry. \u00a0Here are some facts about the\u00a0community we call home: &#8211; Even though our mailing address is Mill Valley, we are not &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/strawberry94941.org\/?page_id=413\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/strawberry94941.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/413"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/strawberry94941.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/strawberry94941.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/strawberry94941.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/strawberry94941.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=413"}],"version-history":[{"count":5,"href":"https:\/\/strawberry94941.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/413\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":419,"href":"https:\/\/strawberry94941.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/pages\/413\/revisions\/419"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/strawberry94941.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=413"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
